A new way of speaking is needed to create change, and “ritual” sounds much more meaningful than “habit.” When something is ritualized, it gains a certain sacredness. A ritual makes it clear there is more you could be doing to realize the full potential of your life. Here are 9 ways individuals should turn habits into rituals to achieve greater success.

Brushing your teeth once a week is completely insignificant when you can make it a daily ritual to eliminate cavities and gum disease. Having a ritual makes it less likely that daily tasks will be neglected. Success can be achieved by incorporating a few rituals into your regular routine.

  1. Every day, set aside time to review your long-term goals. Writing down your goals is insufficient. Every day, it is important to re-examine your goals. You can place your goals beside your bed and review them each evening before you go to sleep or before you go to bed. Reviewing your goals every day reminds you not to forget about them.
  2. Do some exercise for thirty minutes. A short walk would be sufficient. Regular exercise has the added benefit of improving your physical and emotional well-being. Your appearance will improve, too. The best way to get started exercising is to find an activity you enjoy. If you enjoy sports, you should consider joining a league.
  3. If you want to know everything, simply locate a book that offers everything you’ll ever need to know. Instead of watching television for 30 minutes, read for an additional 30 minutes. There is an enormous amount of knowledge that can be gained throughout your lifetime.
  4. Be Mindful. A lot of people find that meditation is helpful for relieving stress, while it can also help to increase focus. A daily routine with the addition of a short meditation session allows you to be a more capable version of yourself.
  5. Make a to-do list. Make a list of your most important daily tasks before retiring for the night. Then organize your tasks in order of importance. You’ll focus on the most critical tasks, and you’ll know what needs to be done when you first open your eyes in the morning.
  6. Take stock of your accomplishments for the day. Just because you did something correctly, doesn’t mean you did everything correctly. While reviewing your day, you are able to identify your accomplishments and shortcomings. You can then fine-tune your methods to increase your number of successes and reduce your number of failures.
  7. Start your day with a healthy breakfast. The most important meal of the day is what you start your day with. It starts the day off right. Unhealthy breakfasts frequently lead to unhealthy lunches and dinners, since after an unhealthy breakfast, the rest of the day’s healthiness is ruined.
  8. Journal writing can be very creative. At the end of the day, write down any thoughts you have. As your awareness increases, you will begin to see recurring patterns in your thought processes and behavior that you previously missed. If only because you have something interesting to recount the following evening, you’ll also live a more exciting life.
  9. Rise early every day. Starting each day without rushing allows for a more relaxed start to the day. You can start your day early and have an advantage over other people.
